Stanley Park (Wit) Wheat Ale

Stanley Park Brewery’s latest release Stanley Park Wit (aka Wheat) beer is now available exclusively in British Columbia. I am a big fan of wheat beer especially on a hot summer day. This seasonal release is perfect for the warm summer months in BC and has been specifically created to enjoy outside with friends or with summer foods. This seasonal release is the latest beer from Stanley Park Brewery, the 100 per cent locally owned and operated brewery.

Following in the footsteps of its siblings – Stanley Park 1897 Amber and Stanley Park Noble Pilsner – Stanley Park Wit aims to deliver on the promise of a finely crafted, world-class premium beer. In development for more than 12 months, the beer is a unique interpretation of the classic, Belgian-styled ale. Witbier, or white beer, as it is sometimes referred to, is characterized by a fruity, fresh taste with intense aromatics. It gets its hazy look and distinctive white head from the yeast and wheat particles that remain in the unfiltered beer.

“This style of beer is exceptionally difficult to make well,” says Andy Murison, VP marketing for Mark Anthony Brands. “Our brew master’s obsessive devotion to finding the right mix of yeast, wheat, barley and spices has resulted in beer that is uniquely Stanley Park Brewery while still maintaining the true essence of the Belgian original.”

Made with nearly half of the malt sourced from local wheat, Stanley Park Wit exudes the flavour characteristics and aromatics found in a traditional wheat beer, with hints of coriander, orange peel and star anise, as well as prominent citrus aromatics and a fruity, well balanced finish. It is refreshingly light with 4.7 per cent alcohol by volume. The signature colour is pale yellow and cloudy in nature due to the unfiltered style which makes Stanley Park Wit so difficult to brew but so rewarding to taste.

A recent trend among local consumers in BC is to seek out seasonal beers because they are brewed specifically to match the weather and to be enjoyed with seasonal foods. Spring and summer beers are typically lighter in colour and flavour while fall and winter brews tend to be darker and heavier. Today, wheat beers are the number one style within the craft beer category.

Beacon IPA

coloured, medium bodied, generously hopped India Pale Ale. Beacon possesses just the perfect balance of sharp hop flavour without being overly bitter. The crisp, inviting aroma and unique, spicy taste will leave the palate yearning for more.

Food Pairings

If you like to intensify the spiciness of food, Beacon IPA is a great beer to pair with Mexican or Thai cuisine. Try it with Thai pumpkin curry and papaya salad. As well, this beer is a great compliment to heavy, fried foods – try it with fried stuffed Poblano chile peppers.

Riptide Pale Ale

is a full flavoured, easy drinking craft brewed ale with a perfect balance of hop character, and malty smoothness. The clean, creamy feel and brisk, fresh flavours awake the taste buds and linger into a dry, crisp, citrus-noted finish.

Food Pairings

The citrus notes in Riptide Pale Ale make it a natural choice for Latin cuisine – the hops temper the spiciness of the food while accentuating the lime and citrus flavors. Riptide Pale Ale is refreshing enough to cut through the heartiest of dishes and is a great choice to pair with grilled meats or juicy burgers.

Racerocks Amber Ale

A blend of the finest specialty malts gives Lighthouse Race Rocks Amber Ale it’s smooth, complex character and deep chestnut colour. Toasted biscuit flavours with subtle notes of caramel and chocolate make Race Rocks an exceptionally mellow, well balanced ale to please any taste.

Food Pairings

Race Rocks Amber Ale is a good all-around beer for any food that is not sweet. Sweets will detract from the maltiness of the beer. Race Rocks is a great accompaniment to sandwiches, hearty soups, pizza and is also a good thirst-quencher for barbecued or Mexican food.
